In July 2014 we had a commemorative day for 550 Squadron who flew Lancaster bombers from the airfield in World War II. There was a flypast by an actual Lancaster bomber and a plaque was unveiled to honour the pilots who flew from North Killingholme.

Here are some of the photos from the day:

550 Squadron 1

Wing Commander Jack Harris OBE DFC RAF retired, having just unveiled the memorial plaque to commemorate 550 Squadron, is seen holding the “Brown Bess” rifle belonging to Tony Fox.  Also watching is Charlie Quinn.

550 Squadron 2

The beautiful and very tasty cake produced by Charlie Quinn’s wife, Josie.  It features a replica 550 Squadron insignia badge and a scale model of the Phantom of the Ruhr Lancaster.  The model Lancaster was handed to Jack Harris as a memento of the occasion.

550 Squadron 3

550 Squadron 4

550 Squadron 5

Veterans of 550 Squadron bomber aircrew signed fine art prints of the Phantom of the Ruhr. These prints were signed by several veterans in our clubhouse and were then purchased by members of KFBC.  One signed print was given to KFBC by the 550 Squadron Association in appreciation of our efforts to put on such a special day. It should be framed and on display in our clubhouse sometime in June 2015.
